The Artist Behind the Objects

Nick Voß — Artist and Founder of Voß Design Objects

I am Nick Voß, artist and founder of Voß Design Objects. I live and work in Aachen, Germany. My art grew from a deep fascination with materials that already carry a story within them: wood shaped by time and nature, and wine corks that evoke places, vintages and meaningful moments.

During an almost two-year period of intensive development, I transformed these materials into my own artistic language. Each cork is examined, sorted and deliberately selected before becoming part of a new whole by hand. At the heart of my work is a continuously growing archive of more than 36,000 registered wine corks.

The result is a series of sculptural, one-of-a-kind works situated between art, design and craftsmanship. None of them are created for a fleeting moment. Each piece demands time, precision and patience. My objects are intended to preserve memories, shape spaces and endure for generations.

For me, Voß Design Objects is therefore more than a brand. It is the beginning of a lifelong artistic journey.

SHAPED BY NATURE

My connection to natural materials began long before Voß Design Objects came into being. Through my professional work with plants and landscapes, I learned to observe growth, form, structure and the traces left by time. This experience continues to shape my artistic perspective. I do not see wood as a uniform material, but as a form shaped by nature, whose grain, edges and irregularities determine the starting point of each work.

Every wine cork also carries visible traces of its previous life. Its provenance, patina, motifs and vintage make it unmistakable. In my work, the natural individuality of the wood meets the collected memories of thousands of corks.

I do not create for rapid repetition or mass production. Each object evolves from its materials and becomes a documented, one-of-a-kind piece within an ongoing collection.
